High performance, more comfortable, conscious living
All Built Green homes are designed to reach beyond current Washington state building and energy codes, creating greener homes. Four different Built Green certification levels, referred to as star levels, offer builders the opportunity to choose the level that best matches the project and their goals. The environmental benefits of this building certification start at construction and continue throughout the life of the building.
Here are the green features and benefits of the building we incorporated to achieve a healthier and more sustainable building:
Site Protection: During construction, erosion control techniques were implemented while the site was exposed. Upon completion, all disturbed soil was amended with a 10-inch layer of compost and soil. The site also retrained the beautiful cedar trees that can be seen from the common hallways and stairwells.
Water Conservation: Drought tolerant plants were selected, requiring only a 2-year irrigation system before they are completely reliant on rainwater.
Energy Improvement: The building exceeds the number of operable windows, required by code, to maximize fresh air in units. Additionally, programmable thermostats are provided in each unit to reduce energy waste in unoccupied units. The building also offers 100% energy efficient appliances, delivering what you need without compromise.
Health and Indoor Air Quality: No VOC (toxic) materials were used during construction, creating a toxin-free space for healthier indoor air. The building is also smoke-free and carpet free to provide residents with the heathiest indoor air.
Materials Efficiency: A large portion of the materials used in the building are produced locally or regionally, including the siding and insulation.
Standardized Benchmarking: To continue to measure sustainability of the building, we submit energy and water consumption yearly for benchmarking.
Durable, Draft-Free Windows and Doors: Less drafty buildings make interior spaces more comfortable in both summer and winter, while also significantly reducing energy use and bills.
“it’s a sustainable building with the quality I sought. These align well with my personal goals in an apartment that feels connected and filled with a vibrant community.”
